Grand
Re-opening December 7th 2009
The George H.W. Bush Gallery closed in June to accommodate construction on
the 43,000 square foot expansion. The project is on schedule. The
remainder of the National Museum of the Pacific War campus remains open.
The Grand
Opening Celebration and Ribbon Cutting for the newly-expanded George H.W.
Bush Gallery will be held on December 7, 2009. President George
H.W. Bush and the Commandant of the Marine Corps, General James T. Conway
will be the honored guests. Accompanying events begin Friday evening
December 4 with Fredericksburg's Lighted Christmas Parade and continue
Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
The National
Museum of the Pacific War, a Texas Historical Commission property operated
by the Admiral Nimitz Foundation, is located in
Fredericksburg, Texas, the birthplace of Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz.
It is the only institution in the continental United States dedicated
exclusively to telling the story of the Pacific Theater of World War II.
Located on a six-acre site, the Museum includes the George Bush Gallery,
Admiral Nimitz Museum, Plaza of Presidents, Veterans' Memorial Courtyard,
Japanese Garden of Peace, Pacific Combat Zone, and the Nimitz Education and
Research Center.
